In October of last year, Adult Swim welcomed back its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, later that same month, the channel launched a fresh animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns proved to be gentle and comforting, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a serene talk show. At a time often defined by bleakness, this show's sincerity resonated deeply and helped it become a surprise hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

On December 18th, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for a further two seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three respectful teenage brothers whose defining trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four key characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for seasons to come."

A President's Endorsement

In the same announcement laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He thanked the fans who found the show and supported its distinctly quirky sensibility.

"All of you supported this new show, rooted for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

Previously, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to evolve comedy past its current sarcastic tone. He linked this trend to various cultural shifts.

“There's this level of irony that we keep returning to,” explained Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
