Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios launched a new playlist called Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough format but features a few notable adjustments:
In short, the playlist delivers on its name: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think it's a good idea, as it gives more options for gamers seeking alternative methods to enjoy the game. But, if video games has shown one thing, it's that you can't please everyone. In other words, a lot of Battlefield 6 fans are mad.
"People want human opponents. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking idea," comments a different user. Meanwhile, in community forums, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," while someone else lists everything they consider to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this bot mode."
On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're liking the new mode. "It's very fun to practice, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," reads a forum post. "The community fails to see that there are players who have lives and can't play this title 24/7. Allow them to strike a balance," adds another. One reply via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," while someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it could increase wait times more extended for different playlists due to the sheer number of options currently available. Similarly, certain regions often face mostly bots in the current modes. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Lastly, a major complaints is that a previous feature was promised to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to remove XP farming from the mode. Thus this new playlist feels like the player base compromising in the middle, according to forum feedback. Another labels this addition as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"
If Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something so far with the latest installment, it is that they're listening and acting on feedback. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, should analytics indicates this new playlist is underperforming to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
