Experience the Reimagined Classic Journey: This Free Demo for Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined Debuts Soon.

Enthusiasts looking forward to the launch of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined won't have to wait much longer. A highly anticipated demo version will become available on Jan. 7, granting a substantial look into the game's initial chapters. Notably, any save data achieved within this demo can be carried over directly into the full game upon its subsequent debut.

Beyond Just a Simple Remake: A Thorough Overhaul

This title represents a comprehensive reimagining of the seminal year 2000 RPG, originally known as Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. Taking a distinct departure from other Dragon Quest re-releases, like the recently released HD-2D versions, this version utilizes a charming 3D visual presentation. The world are designed to look like detailed model sets, with party members featuring a whimsical stylized look.

"Taking into account the 3DS remake, the story was still notoriously lengthy. Consequently, the team came to a determination that we wanted to condense the story, [and] make this experience for contemporary gamers."

Significant Gameplay Changes and Modernizations

Square Enix has added a host of modernizations to update the classic gameplay loop. These include:

  • Quick Overworld Battles: Similar to modern role-playing games, low-level foes can now be defeated instantly on the overworld map eliminating the need for entering a separate traditional combat sequence.
  • Adjustable Combat Speed: Gamers have the option to accelerate combat animations to quickly power through simpler fights.
  • New Vocation System: A completely new job class was introduced for this reimagining. Additionally, party members now have the ability to take on a secondary vocation, greatly enhancing customization possibilities.

These alterations seek to address one of the original title's most noted criticisms: its considerable scope. The original storyline was known to require over 100 hours to finish. This reimagined edition has been specifically reworked to improve flow and reduce perceived filler.
