As we head into the final week of the NFL regular season, just two postseason berths remain open. Yet, far more is at stake, including the highly desired top seeds in both conferences and four division titles.
NFL schedulers have crafted a perfect finale, with the final two postseason places on the line in a pair of head-to-head matchups.
The winner of the Steelers-Ravens contest will claim the #4 spot and a home game in the wildcard round. At the same time, the Bills and Los Angeles are locked in as wildcard teams.
The Texans require a win coupled with a Jaguars loss to climb from the fifth seed to the third seed. Denver will earn the #1 ranking with a triumph, but a setback could pave the way for New England or Jacksonville to snatch it.
The South division will be claimed by the winner of the Panthers-Buccaneers game, earning them the fourth seed. However, the Panthers could still win the divisional title even with a loss, contingent on other results.
Green Bay are locked into the seventh spot. The highlight, however, is the battle for the #1 seed in the NFC between the Seahawks and San Francisco, with a week off and home playoff games hanging in the balance.
The #1 team in each conference receives a valuable first-round bye and home games throughout the postseason.
On Wildcard Weekend, the remaining six qualified teams face off: the second seed hosts the #7 team, #3 plays #6, and fourth hosts fifth.
For the second round, the #1 seeds enter the competition, hosting the weakest remaining seed. The AFC and NFC championship games are then played at the best remaining team, underscoring the critical value of securing that top spot.
Baltimore Ravens @ Pittsburgh Steelers (01:20, Monday)
This fierce rivalry reaches its climax in the final game of the regular season. The divisional title and a play-off berth at stake, this is a true win-or-go-home scenario.
The Steelers have been up and down this season, while Baltimore struggled early but remain in the hunt. Player availability may prove critical: The Steelers may be without key target DK Metcalf, while Baltimore's quarterback Lamar Jackson is a doubt with a health issue.
Running back Derrick Henry could be the x-factor for the Ravens in what is set up as a hard-hitting, low-scoring battle.
San Francisco 49ers vs. Seattle Seahawks (01:00, Sunday)
Not only the division title is on the line when Seattle travels to the 49ers. The victorious team claims the NFC's top seed and the road to the Super Bowl that it provides.
This game pits an high-powered 49ers offense against a stingy Seahawks defense. Since quarterback their young passer returned, San Francisco have been the NFL's highest scorers. Conversely, the Seahawks' defense is rated among the best in the NFL.
Seattle quarterback Sam Darnold needs to cut down on costly turnovers that have haunted him this season. The team that wins this clash earns a huge advantage for the playoff run.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Carolina Panthers (21:30 Saturday)
Both clubs comes into this contest with strong form. Tampa Bay have lost four straight, while the Panthers have missed recent opportunities to secure the division.
For Carolina it's straightforward: a victory gets them in. The Buccaneers, the scenario is trickier. Even with a win, they need another result from the Falcons-Saints game to steal the division crown.
Tennessee Titans @ Jacksonville Jaguars (18:00, Sunday)
New England Patriots vs. Miami Dolphins (21:25, Sunday)
Denver Broncos vs. Los Angeles Chargers (21:25, Sunday)
Denver control their destiny for the #1 AFC spot. A win over a Chargers team expected to sit starters seals it.
If the Broncos lose, the opportunity arises for the Patriots. A New England victory coupled with a Broncos loss would hand the top seed to Bill Belichick's team.
Jacksonville are the long shot. They need a triumph and losses by both Denver and New England to achieve an improbable ascent to #1. More importantly, a Jaguars loss could allow them to be overtaken by the Houston Texans in the division standings.
