Patrick Bamford has signed with Sheffield United just half a year after starting insulting songs directed at their manager, Chris Wilder.
This experienced striker, without a club since leaving Leeds, has signed a agreement with the Championship strugglers through the winter. His seven-year spell at Elland Road concluded by mutual consent in August.
Among the player's final notable acts while at Leeds was to lead abusive songs regarding Chris Wilder during Leeds' promotion celebrations this spring. Now, the former England international will feature under Wilder as Sheffield United's boss aims to rescue the team he loves away from the bottom places.
The pair had history before Leeds moved up to the top flight last season and United were defeated in the promotion decider to Sunderland. Wilder called Bamford as a "muppet" when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and the Blades won automatic promotion while Leeds United fell short in the promotion playoffs.
Everything appears has been resolved with Sheffield United, the league's least productive attack, in desperate need of a boost up front while Bamford looking to resurrect his career.
The Wilder chant gained traction this spring. A repentant Bamford along with Leeds boss, Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the following day.
Chris Wilder stated back then: “Had a conversation with Pat recently and I have no issue whatsoever with it. I’m not sure about the language from a fellow pro! However I appreciated and admired him calling me.
“We had a short while and the same again I spoke to Daniel Farke too and had a half-hour chat together and he's a great person, a top guy. Back in my playing days we would dish it out and take it and that’s part and parcel of the game at every level, even on a Sunday morning. I have absolutely no issue. I'm fine with it and I said that to Patrick.”
The forward made 18 games with Leeds United in the previous campaign but the former Forest, Chelsea and Boro player has faced difficulties with injury over the past few seasons.
