The Derry Prequel Series Premieres Episode Two Early on the Streaming Platform

Audiences are thrilled for the Stephen King adaptation the Derry series, which is receiving positive feedback and drawing from references from additional King stories. Just one day after launch, the network has revealed that the second installment will arrive early, released fittingly for the spookiest night.

Premiere Shift Details

Starting on the last day of October at midnight PT, the next part of It: Welcome to Derry will premiere on HBO Max, ahead of its traditional TV airing. Future chapters of the show's first season will be released on the weekend on both HBO and its streaming arm, building toward the final episode on Sunday, December 14.

Show Background

Taking place within the Derry mythology, Welcome to Derry is inspired by the classic book while building upon the universe brought to life by filmmaker Andy Muschietti in the recent movie adaptations. The original It centered on young characters battling terrifying threats, making it appropriate that this show follows in those footsteps. Nevertheless, the debut of the HBO series shows it set out to increase the tension, offering more frightening moments than the movies and setting a dark atmosphere for the rest of the season.

Setting and Themes

Located in the early '60s, the program introduces a different group of parents and youngsters living in a seemingly idyllic town concealing a dark secret. Derry functions through a cruel, recurring cycle—characterized by aggression, prejudice, and paranormal events, as a monstrous presence reappears each 27-year cycle. Although Welcome to Derry might appear like it strays too near to the films at first, what sets apart the HBO Max series is its parallel storytelling—told from the viewpoints of young and old concurrently. Children stay especially susceptible to the monster's horror, but grown-ups aren’t spared confronting their own nightmares arising from the town's ingrained prejudice and hidden paranormal elements.

Episode 2 premieres on Halloween at midnight PT.
