The Red Devils Set to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, has been a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated since she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading strikers. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major boost to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent performances feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional business:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the American league, said: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
