A devastating detonation at a security post in the Indian-controlled part of Kashmir has resulted in the deaths of nine persons and injuries to thirty-two additional people, according to authority reports.
The incident took place when a stockpile of confiscated explosives inadvertently exploded during management operations.
The explosion occurred on Friday evening at the Nowgam police station, where blast substances taken from the Faridabad area in the northern state of Haryana were being stored temporarily.
Regional security director stated that the detonation substances were scheduled for forensic examination when a "deeply regrettable" mishap during processing led to their explosion at approximately 23:20 in the evening.
Law enforcement officials confirmed that this was an "unintentional explosion" and not a terrorist attack. "Alternative theories regarding the origin of this event is unwarranted," emphasized the police chief during a journalist meeting.
The police station experienced extensive destruction from the detonation, with nearby constructions also being impacted by the intense detonation.
Multiple vehicles were "consumed by fire and turned into burned shells, with debris scattered across the location," according to police accounts.
"The intensity of the explosion was such that some human remains were recovered from close-by residences, approximately 100-200 metres away the law enforcement facility," mentioned an authority informant.
The bulk of the fatalities were police officers, along with forensic personnel, two crime scene photographers, and a clothing professional who was accompanying the group.
The territory's Regional Leader stated condolences and announced that an probe had been commissioned into the catastrophic occurrence.
"I have directed a probe to establish the cause of the inadvertent detonation. Deeply anguished by the loss of precious lives due to extremely tragic unintentional explosion at Nowgam security post in the Srinagar area. My commiserations to the bereaved families. I hope for rapid recuperation of the wounded," wrote the official on online channels.
