A young person from the Land Down Under has faced legal proceedings after reportedly vandalizing a large blue sculpture of a legendary being by affixing googly eyes to it.
The 19-year-old, 19 years old, appeared remotely at the local court in South Australia on that day, charged with one count of property damage.
Officials commented at the time of the recent event, the municipal authorities said that surveillance video showed a person putting artificial eyes on the sculpture, which locals have nicknamed the “Cast in Blue”.
Ms Vanderhorst made no plea and told the judge she was ill, as reported by media sources, with the magistrate recommending her to find a legal representative before her next court date in December.
The following day the reported event, the city leader said that repairs to the much-loved community sculpture would be expensive as the adhesive eyes were impossible to be removed without harming the art piece.
“This intentional vandalism to a valued public artwork is inappropriate and disrespectful,” City of Mount Gambier mayor remarked in mid-September. “It is not innocent amusement, it is pricey - it is also disappointing to those members of our community who have welcomed the Blue Blob.”
She added the local government would pursue the “significant” restoration expenses from those responsible for the damage.
When the artwork was first proposed, it drew varied responses from the area residents due to its cost and appearance.
Costing 136,000 Australian dollars (eighty-nine thousand US dollars; £68,000), the artwork depicts a mythical megafauna, with the creators influenced by an ancient marsupial ant-eater discovered in nearby caverns that was “massive, lumbering and fascinating”.
